Water treatment coagulants are typically used to treat water for suspended solids removal.

Corrosion in water pipes happen very frequently and can lead to boiler systems failure, water contamination and overall efficiency loss.

Inhibitors are chemicals that react with a metallic surface, giving the surface a certain level of protection and protects it from corrosion.

Disinfectants kill unwanted microrganisms such as bacteria, germs & viruses in water. There are various different types of disinfectants used for water treatment:
· Chlorine (dose 2-10 mg/L)
· Chlorine dioxide
· Ozone
· Hypochlorite

Flocculants are chemicals used to agglomerate fine particles in the water, then creating a floc which then floats to the surface of the water or settles to the bottom. The floc is then easier to be removed. 

Neutralizing agents are used to neutralize acids or bases in the water. Sodium hydroxide, calcium carbonate, or lime suspension are used to increase pH levels, while diluted sulphuric  acid or diluted hydrochloric acid to reduce pH levels. 

Oxidants are used to remove COD/BOD levels, and to remove organic & inorganic components.

Examples of oxidation chemicals as below:

· Hydrogen peroxide;
· Ozone;
· Combined ozone & peroxide;
· Oxygen.

Water oxygen scavengers are chemicals to combat the detrimental effects of oxygen-related corrosion in industrial boiler systems, hot water systems, and steam raising plant. Reduce of corrosion decreases maintenance cost and downtime. 

Ion exchange resins need to be regenerated after application, after that, they can be reused. But every time the ion exchangers are used serious fouling takes place. The contaminants that enter the resins will not be removed through regeneration; therefore resins need cleaning with resin cleaners.


Chemicals that are used are sodium chloride, potassium chloride, citric acid and chlorine dioxide.

 

Scales are precipitates that are formed as a result of precipitation of normally soluble solids that become insoluble due to temperature increase. 

Scale inhibitors disrupt the formation of scale and remain it in suspension. Examples of scale inhibitors are

phosphate esters, phosphoric acid and solutions of low molecular weight polyacrylic acid.
